We get the most liberty to express ourselves fashion-wise during the fall season. The fact that the weather is not much of an issue when it comes to picking out your wardrobe makes this season a beauty to behold.
This is the second and final part of our fall series and this post is directed mainly at men in their thirties and above. Click here to read the first part of the series.
Unlike most women who are still fashion-conscious at whatever age, men generally require more guidance and direction when picking out their outfits and accessories. Vaguely speaking – the older you become, the more difficult it might be to maintain your body shape. This change would also require a fashion transition process..It will please you to know that you can look great regardless of what your body shape looks like.
Style advice for 30+ men
Do not be afraid of colour
Do not get too used to wearing only the mainstream colours: white, black, grey or maybe brown. Add some navy, blue, pink, green, maroon shirts to your closet. This way, you’re able to create a different look almost every time you go to work. It makes your wardrobe look pleasant.
Make sure your hair is right
Some people (ladies especially) spot your hair before they even notice what you are wearing. It doesn’t matter what you wear and how you wear it – if your hair doesn’t look neat, you wouldn’t look neat. Simple. If you’re keeping a beard, make sure it’s always neat too.
Suits are optional for guys in their twenties but they’re a must-have for 30+ guys. It is extremely vital to own at least one suit. Even if your job doesn’t require a suit, you never know when a dinner, interview or wedding could pop up.
Get a good wrist-watch
Whether it’s a silver or gold chain watch or a black or brown leather watch, pick your poison. Any one of these would go with every outfit you could possibly wear. Keep in mind that watches give a more presentable and responsible look. To make things better it doesn’t only make you look good, it tells you the time as well.
Wear ties and pocket squares. Don’t just pick out a tie because it looks good to you at the moment. Be imaginative: imagine how the tie would look on a shirt you already own. If you think it’ll look great, get it. And at the moment of actually trying out an outfit, combine different shirts with different ties and go with the look that feels like the best to you. Scarves are really cool accessories too.
Try on waistcoats
This is particularly interesting for men who have lost that youthful slim appearance. Waistcoats, when adjusted properly, gives the right fit. They’re also a bridge between casual and formal. The difference between most waist coats is the detailing. Keep an eye on the detailing.
Dig a Trench
My pick for outerwear would be a trench coat. Trench coats provide a smooth transition from a huge business meeting to wings night with the guys. There is also a trench coat for everybody – long piece for tall-slim men; cropped piece for the shorter or larger man.
For the overall outFIT
I said in part one that “You can rock all the nice things available in the planet but it won’t look good on you if it’s not your FIT”. This is the plain truth! Wear things that fit you. It’s as simple as that. Men over thirty could also wear blazers, sweaters and polo shirts.
