I know what you’re thinking. “Ermm Medu..I’ve been on earth for a minute now. I might not be an expert in everything but come on man, I’m pretty sure I can tie my shoes”. I went to play soccer last month with my brand new cleats ‘properly’ tied and after a few minutes, they came untied. I properly tied them again and set out to score a few goals. After a few minutes, they came untied again. What did I do this time? Something I’m sure is not uncommon for most people: I made a double-knot. The tightness made me uncomfortable and I could only run for a few minutes with that. Now I knew I might not know how to tie my shoes, so I swallowed my pride and asked my friend to tie my cleats for me. Here’s what I learned from him:
1. Cross your laces around each other to form a base as usual
2. Take one of the laces and form a loop (we know this too)
3. Take the other lace with your other hand and go round this loop you’ve just formed. We know this too right? Here’s the catch: Don’t just go round once. Go round the loop twice.
4. Pull the lace through and tighten.
That’s it, we’re done. It really is that simple. We have our nice and secure knot.
Notice this method is literally the same thing we’re used to – just with an extra circle to pull the lace through. The laces didn’t come off again that day and my friend has given me assurances that he has been doing that for years and he hasn’t complained so….You’re welcome.
Of course there are other ways to tie your shoes and I’ll be learning more in the near future. In the meantime, how do you tie your shoes? Would you suggest any alternative methods of tying shoes?
See you in the comments 🙂
